MUSICAL MUSINGS by Bruce Robinson
Reading through issues 49 and 50 of The Halton Magazine, regarding skiffle and rock musicians, sparked my own memories of the music scene at Halton.
There was a jazz concert held in a venue down near workshops, near to where the old church used to be situated. Memory plays tricks but I recall a lad called Moorhouse (?) [possibly 79th] who played drums, trumpet [but not at the same time!] getting a standing ovation from his entry after a solo.
A jazz club [records] was started over in 3 Wing on a Tuesday night, I remember it was the day before band practise night, but cannot remember the actual venue or who started it [possibly a senior entry member]
When I left Halton I bought 2 LP's from "Slim" Turner, one of them included Gerry Mulligan performing a 27 chorus baritone sax solo…..awesome!!
